Enclosure for the Muffsy Phono Preamp

You can pretty much build the Muffsy Phono Preamp into any enclosure you can imagine. These instructions will not cover all possibilities though.

The Muffsy Phono Preamp is designed to fit in a B0905 aluminum enclosure. Together with the Muffsy Power Supply and the Back Panel, you can build the complete phono stage with no drilling or modifications whatsoever.

The way I found the case was simply by searching for "0905 enclosure" on eBay. A couple of weeks later, this showed up:

These are the dimensions of my enclosure:

  • Width: 92 mm
  • Height: 47 mm
  • Depth: 158 mm

The nice thing about this enclosure is that it has grooves on each side for mounting PCBs, and both the Muffsy Phono Preamp and the Muffsy Power Supply slide right into them. No need for drilling or special mounting.

Assemble the Parts

I have prepared the phono stage, power supply, the back panel and wired both the audio and power (click on the links for instructions).

With these steps done, the phono stage looks like this:

Insert the PCBs

Notice that I have the holes in the screw terminals facing inwards, to make sure no cables are touching the cabinet walls. Now you can start sliding the two boards into the enclosure:

Slide the boards in all the way, and you will end up with the whole assembly looking more or less like this:

Fasten the Back Panel

With the PCBs in place, just fasten the back panel:

Mount the top piece of the enclosure, and you've got yourself a phono stage:
